A handful of Toronto environmental protesters say they’ll hold a rally against Ontario’s decision to allow a major fracking operation to take place on private land near the city’s airport.
The rally, which has already drawn the support of local environmental groups, is being organized by environmentalist groups Ecojustice, Idle No More and the Friends of the Earth.
The group has been meeting in the city for months to try to stop the fracking project.
Environmentalists say fracking is not needed to mitigate climate change and that it would destroy the health of the city and the environment.
The government is expected to issue a final decision next week on whether or not to approve the fracking operation at the airport, which will be operated by a private company.
The government has been mum about the decision to grant permission for the operation.
